CarPlan-sponsored, Team LNT take class victory in European Le Mans opening round
CarPlan-sponsored Team LNT made a perfect start to this year’s European LMS at the weekend when car #2 took the LMP3 class win at the 4 Hours of Silverstone.
The Ginetta-Nissan car finished 16th overall, having qualified in 31st, driven by six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy and the 2012 Ginetta Junior champion Charlie Robertson.
Robertson set the fastest time in the newly introduced class, recording 2mins 1.214secs on lap 21 of the 107 the team completed – the only quicker times were from the LMP2 class.
Peter Schofield, Chairman of Tetrosyl, CarPlan’s parent company, says: ‘CarPlan has had great presence in International motorsport and we are very proud to be backing Ginetta-Nissan in this new class. Sir Chris Hoy and Charlie did a phenomenal job and ended with a great result. We look forward to the rest of the season with excitement, well done!’
Hoy says of the race: ‘The real achievement here is from Team LNT and Ginetta. To give us a car capable of doing this in such a short time makes me very proud to be part of the effort. And to hear the National Anthem on a podium again was a real moment, not something I thought I’d get to do again!’
Meanwhile, 18-year-old teammate Robertson adds: ‘It’s been an amazing few weeks, from testing the car for the first time, to pole position and then this! It hasn’t really sunk in but it does make me feel that we can go forward and launch a Championship effort. That’s the real reward for everyone’s hard work in getting us here.’
The next race of the European Le Mans Series will be held at Imola in May.
